Very well made
This jacket runs a little big, but that is because if you're wearing a jacket meant for arctic conditions you will not be wearing just a t-shirt underneath. Take that into consideration when sizing. Other than that, its very well made...good stitching, solid material, comfortable inner-quilting, etc. The oversized zipper is made for years of abuse and should perform well in ice/snow (two conditions known to destroy zippers).

It's a long review, but be patient
I have worn this coat in temperatures down to -35 Fahrenheit without including wind chill factor, this coat will keep you warm, especially if you understand how layers work. For the record though, I'm pretty warm blooded and don't get cold easily but if you'll take the time to learn how your body handles frigid temperatures, and you layer accordingly, you'll be fine.

Fit
Not sure for you, but I got the 2xl tall since I'm 6'8 and need the sleeve length, as well as extra room for my bulky heavyweight vest when needed. It fits perfect how I want it, just go to the store and try it on for Yourself

Appearance
It's a coat, needs to be warm not fancy

Durability
Don't get sparks on it, but otherwise the nylon handles thorns and sagebrush well, zippers are tough

Quality
If it sucked I wouldn't use it, great coat for cold weather

Comfort
The coat is stiff, but I like heavy durable material. I'll say it again, it's a warm coat. If you layer right doubly so. Warm and dry is more comfortable than soft stylish fabric, don't buy a coat to look nice, buy it to stay warm

Conclusion
No it's not cheap, but frostbite/hypothermia/pneumonia is not worth a cheap coat when your cold and wet for long periods of time outside.

if it doesn't get much colder for you than anywhere between 37-15 Fahrenheit this is still a solid choice as nylon won't get wet like cotton will, and wet cold is more dangerous than dry cold. you just won't need the layers like you will in much drier colder temperatures. go read "US cold weather doctrine" online for more info.

One of the coldest coat I have ever owned
I purchased a carhartt C55 jacket and am very impressed with the overall quality and and choice of materials used in the coat, but it is far from the warmest jacket I have ever owned and could not recommend this product to friends and family for one reason, the jacket only zips up to my neck line leaving my neck exposed to the elements making the jacket not as worm as jackets that I have had that have zipped past my neck line to my chin. Overall after owning and wearing the jacket for a couple of weeks I find it inadequate for a winter in northern Ohio and can only assume one would freeze to death if they wore it to the Arctic as the name of the jacket suggests.

Long Term Review
I have owned this coat for going on 3 years now. Like all Carhartts it wears like iron but if you are trying to decide between the Extremes or traditional duck coat I have owned both and prefer the Extremes for 3 reasons: 1 better wind resistance, 2 better water repellency, 3 lighter and tougher than cotton duck. Because it is more wind resistant, it is actually warmer than cotton duck version. The 1000 denier nylon shell is the same material many high end motorcycle jackets are made so it is tough! I just wish the front pockets were true hand warmer pockets lined with a micro fleece or similar. Last suggestion (for all Carhartt coats and jackets) is a micro fleece lining on the inside of the zipper flap under the chin to eliminate chafing.

Warm, tough as nails!
I used this coat to build a house in the middle of winter. Its seen it all, sawdust, fuel, liquid nails, insulation, more dirt than a 6 year old and after a wash it still looks almost new. Ive had zero rips or tears and the fasteners work great, even with gloves on. No regrets, toughest coat Ive ever owned.

Important piece of the puzzel
This is a great compliment to the Paxton Hooded ZIP Mock Pullover. Sometimes I need a Neck Gaiter on the cold South Dakota plains, but that's to keep even more snow out. Combo this C55 with a DECENT base layer and the Paxton & you will be burning up.

Warm, but needs a little help.
Overall, this is a very nice coat. The quality is excellent (as it is with most Carhartt products), and it is indeed somewhat water-resistant. I bought one last year, and purchased a second one - which should tell you what a nice product I think this is.

The only complaint I have about this coat is with the zipper: the zipper is quite large and robust (as you'd expect it to be on a rugged coat like this), yet the zipper handle is a bit small and, moreover, its attachment to the zipper is strikingly thin. I am concerned that this will break with time, especially since it takes a reasonable amount of force to open and close the zipper.

The one other comment I'd make about this coat is that the ballistic lining by nature isnt very warm. Wear this jacket by itself in the freezing cold and you'll feel much of the cold. Wear a sweatshirt or sweater underneath it and this coat will keep you remarkably warm. For any jacket to be warm, it should have a lining that traps air against your body, such as fleece. Ballistic lining is durable and easy to put on over other layers of clothing, but doesn't do much to trap air. It needs one more layer of cloth beneath it to keep you warm. It is also worth noting that the cordura outer is a rather stiff material - much more so when the jacket is new - that does soften up a bit with time.

Otherwise, this is probably the nicest coat I've ever owned.

Best winter coat for Great Lakes sailors!
The Carhartt Arctic outwear is the only thing that allows me to be warm during the harsh Great lakes winters while working in freezing temperatures and water spraying and freezing to the coat. I have had these coats covered in ice and or soaking wet on the outside while I stayed warm on the inside. I layer with tight knit polyester as a base layer then the Carhartt Arctic as an outer layer and I can handle any weather down to -30 degrees with wind. These coats also last over 8 years before repetitive working conditions finally wear through the heavy outer fabric and I still remain warm even with holes in the outer layers of the sleeves. The holes are from my abuse to the clothing not a manufacturing defect. These coats are bomb proof and a must for anyone facing cold harsh winters. I'm also a native Floridian meaning that I get cold when the weather drops below 70 degrees and this clothing allows me so survive the winters in warmth. Just dress with good thermals and and get the Arctic bibs to cover your lower half so you stay warm when it drops below 20 degrees.

I had to return the large coat that I ordered. It was sewn improperly under the arms. The material was gathered and folded over on itself at the seams, making the coat very uncomfortable. It felt like I had a pair of rolled up socks under each arm. I called customer service and explained the issue. I then ordered an extra large, and returned the original. When the original arrived I examined the jacket. All of the seams were stitched properly, but the tag said Made in Mexico. I tried the jacket on, and the shoulders and chest fit great. The waist - stomach area was about 4xl. Ridiculously large. I had read the reviews and thought that others were exaggerating about the oversized stomach area. Quality control must be non existent in Mexico. I will not be buying any more items from Carhartt. I have a coat that is made in Mexico, and a plaid hunting cap that was made in Bangladesh. Carhart used to be an American company that dealt in quality items, but it appears that they have traded quality of American made products for GREED. I WILL NOT BE BUYING FROM CARHARTT ANY MORE.

Don't be fooled by it's light weight.
I've been using this jacket and coveralls for around 20 years now. Warmest, lightest, driest, most durable, wind free coat I've ever owned. I have one at work and one at home. One size up might be necessary if wearing the Artic coveralls underneath. The zipper has been the weak spot on every jacket, but I work hard in it and still get about 5 years out of it. Jacket might be light in weight, but I've NEVER been cold in it even down to 40 below wind chills with the coveralls on. My military Gortex Antarctic issued jacket has no significant advantage and is louder and stiffer at those temps.

Warm and rugged
This was sold to me as the warmest coat Carhartt offers. Its ruggedness is due to its outer shell, which repels rain and snow as well as bushes and stickers. This coat is not for the faint hearted or shopping center crowd (although it will work fine). It is for the outdoors, where there is no expectation of warmth or comfort. Its pockets accommodate tools and gloves while its inside pockets protect your valuables and cell phone, Not a coat to make you sweat but a coat to keep you warm in the elements. Not a heavy buffalo hide but a lightweight, hi-tec coat for the outside. I recommend it to those in mid- to extreme climates who want to keep warm and keep moving.

Extremly Dissapointed
Overall this coat is excellent. Great fit, durable, good looking. But NOT warm enough for northern Canadian winters. I have to wear another jacket underneath just to stay slightly warm, and the cold hasn't even hit yet. Its only -25c here and I'm cold. I guess i will have to look for a winter work coat somewhere else. Great coat if the temps stay above freezing. Maybe a name change would help buyers... call it" kind of extreme sub arctic fall coat."

Great Coldweather Gear
I work in the oil and gas industry which takes me all over the world, i purchased this jacket and the acrtic bibs to go with them in light of a hitch in North Dakota through January. With the temps reaching -20 farenheit I never found a time when i wasn't warm and comfortable. I would recommend this gear to anyone who is going to be working or just spending anytime outside in extreme cold conditions.

Its even tough in the Arctic!
I've had my Carhartt Extreme for years... My coat has been the greatest tool of my trade since day one. I will never buy another coat unless its an Extreme. I work on the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay, AK and up there you need grade A gear and not "knock-off" stuff you buy at Walmart... These jackets are the real deal. If I can stay warm at temperatures reaching well below -60 during 10-12 hour days outside, I'll assure you it'll keep you warm anywhere. It's great when it comes to cold, wet environments.

The Best I've Ever Owned
I've had my Extreme for 3 winters. I'm a Truck Driver and unload by hand much of the freight. Other coats fall short in durability. They usually wear out at the sleeve ends from continuously rubbing on the steering wheel or from handling freight. Not the Carhartt Extreme this thing shows almost NO wear at all. Its super warm. I really like the draw string inside for keeping out the cold on windy days. I will be purchasing another "IF" I ever wear this thing out... Thanks for a great product.

Best coat I've ever bought!
Yes this jacket is very windproof, yes this jacket is very water repellent, yes the durability of this jacket is excellent, yes this jacket is very warm. I love this jacket, I love the fact that it has a dual zipper. you can zip it from the bottom up and also there's a second zipper so you can pull up from the bottom and open it up so it makes it a lot more comfortable to wear the jacket while sitting at the same time. It's not winter yet but I have worn it outside when I've considered it cold and it's kept me very warm, I really bought it for ice fishing, if I have any complaints I will update my review.

Excellent jacket
I bought this jacket with the hood and matching bib and they are incredible. I've had mine for over a year and it's performed flawlessly. I wear it almost 6 months out of the year and it hasn't let me down yet. It's by far the best jacket Carhartt has to offer.

This is a solid and warm coat.
This is replacing a cotton duck coat of the same model. This is an excellent coat. Fairly light weight for such a warm garment. Sturdy nylon shell seems rugged; just a bit too stiff when new - hoping it will soften as it breaks in, but not a big issue. Really heavy-duty zipper works fine. Sizing seems fairly accurate to me. Overall a fine coat for cold weather work.

This is my second Yukon Extremes coat. The first was three years old and had a zipper malfunction. I nevertheless replaced it with the same coat, this time with the optional hood. It is essential for New England dog walking on the water where the wind is nearly constant. It is a great value and the warmest coat I have owned. It is attractive, fits well and has my unqualified recommendation.

Best Coat Ever
I'm extremely cold natured and this coat is perfect for me. I don't live in rugged Alaska, but in the Midwest it's been super cold and this coat has kept me warm for many seasons.
It has massive front pockets that will hold gloves, a thermos, tools, etc. The pockets are awesome. There are even inside pockets for your wallet or what not. The two upper chest pockets are also super handy.
The zipper is awesome. It zips from the bottom up, in both directions. So, even when it's freezing cold and I need to access the front of my pants I don't have to unzip the whole coat and lose all that precious warmth. I suppose it's worth mentioning that the coat is a bit longer so you don't have that bare midsection between your shirt and pants, making the zipper feature a necessity in my opinion.
Water rolls off it like a ducks back.
The hood is a must, snap it on and leave it there.
It has shoulder gussets that allow full mobility and will break in with use. The coat is extremely durable.
Others have mentioned it's a "heavy" coat, but by that they mean in regards to the weather. The coat's actual weight is quite light. Much lighter than a leather jacket or denim even.
I find the coat is perfect for me in most temperatures, depending on how I layer. If I know I am going to be out for a long time I can wear a thermal and hoodie and be fine or just a t shirt if I don't intend on being out for a long time. Fit is perfect for me, but I am a small framed man and I bought mine in a store after trying one on and not going with a usual size i wear.
The cuffs are great. They are perfect for pairing a heavy glove and liner. They identified all the annoying little places snow can creep in and came up with a design to keep it out.
Best coat I've ever owned. Perfect for anything between 40 and under. Great for snow, rain, etc. Easy to clean right off!
I am a plumber and spend some time out in the elements from thawing pipes in crawl spaces, cleaning sewers from outside clean outs, evaluating water meters in the yard, or down in trenches making repairs. I trust this coat to keep me warm wether I am standing still for hours at a time or shoveling snow.

Water Resistant? Not Really
Solid quality. This a rugged and durable coat, virtually indestructible. Branches and thorns won't tear it. Rolling on concrete doesn't phase it. The zipper is heavy and reliable. Pockets are spacious and deep, and stay attached. It needs another layer to be really warm, but is just fine if you are working. In real cold it is windproof and the black color soaks up the sun, too. The only problem I have with this coat is its water resistance, or lack thereof. It is water resistant in the same way a roll of paper towels is water resistant; namely that it takes some time to soak through. But soak through it does and it holds plenty of water once that happens. A good drenching and you won't be wanting to wear it the next day, either. Because it is so absorbant, drying out takes some time. If you buy this coat make sureto pick up a can of Camp Dry at the same time.

Two thumbs up, because that is all I have
Two thumbs up because that is all I have. Again Carhartt top quality. Size runs true. Looks like it will need some break in time and that is fine with me. May be the last coat that I ever have to buy for myself. Below 0 in NH tonight and I was fine outside. Great buy! Plus I am very happy with Getzs.com and glad I found them!

Appalachian Winters
I bought this style jacket with hood about 20? years ago from a store that carried a great line of Carhartt wear in Newland NC. Winters can be cold, snowy and damp in the Appalachians, I would take this jacket to Pluto. Awesome construction with a heavy duty zipper. I've 'grown' since then and plan to find a larger size of the same jacket, even with years of woods work and many memorable winter seasons it still looks great with no frays, tears or breaks. Thanks! Carhartt.

GET SOME DAGGUM COLOR WILL YA?
WHAT'S , WITH THIS BLACK, DARK AND DINGY? MOST OF US ARE NOT FARMERS ANYMORE. ONE CAN DYE OR COAT CANVAS WITH ANY COLOR IN THE RAINBOW. BLACK IS A BAD CHOICE FOR ARCTIC GEAR BECAUSE, WHEN IT'S WINTER IN THE ARCTIC IT'S DARK NEARLY ALL THE TIME. AND BLACK IN SNOW CAN BE TAKEN FOR ROCKS OR TREES. IT TENDS TO BE CONSIDERABLY DARKER IN THE REST OF NORTH AMERICA TOO. SO IF ONE ISN'T OPERATING IN STEALTH MODE, IT'S GENERALLY A VERY GOOD IDEA TO BE VERY VISABLE. ESP. IN OUTSIDE WORK SUCH AS CONSTRUCTION, SNOW SHOVELING, FISHING HUNTING, CROSS WALK ATTENDENT, GROUNDS KEEPING, ANIMAL TENDING, FURIERS, COURIER, ETC. ALSO, WINTER TENDS TO BE DREARY ANYWAY, AND THE FURTHER NORTH, THE LONGER THE WINTER, SO DARK AND DRAB IS DOWN RIGHT DEPRESSING. LAST BUT NOT LEAST AT ALL IS WOMEN WORK OUTSIDE TOO, TEND ANIMALS CHILDREN WALK TO WORK OR BUS STOPS, DARK IS GOOD FOR MECHANICS AND MEN MAYBE BUT THE OTHER HALF OF THE WORLD WANTS OPTIONS. CHEERFUL AND NOTICABLE OPTIONS. CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'D IGNORE WE WOMEN. (WE HAVE MORE CURVES TOO BUT WELL DO THE SAME COAT AS A MAN TO STAY WARM AND HAVE DURABLE CLOTHING. FOR WOMEN USE SLIGHTLY THINNER CANVAS AND COAT IT WITH SOMETHING THATS MASSIVELY EASY TO CLEAN. WOMEN WHO DO HARD WORK NEED ALL THE BREAKS THEY CAN GET)

14 years on the Railroad and still going strong!
I have worn this as a Railroad Conductor and Locomotive Engineer here in the Northeast for over 14 winters, and it is still as comfortable and warm as when it was new.
It is heavy, so I only wear it when the temperature is below 20F, but having worn it in all kinds of weather conditions, including the recent sub-zero weather, it is still a life-saver! Although this coat is a heavy winter coat, I still find it comfortable to walk the long distances sometimes required of us, and it is not overly heavy or oppressive when keeping active.
I highly recommend this fine garment for working conditions where the temperatures get below 20F. One thing, I have always worn the optional hood. I'm not a fan of the wimpy collar it comes with, and the coat really shines with the optional hood, and I would never think of owning one without the hood. I also have it professionally treated for water resistance every few years. It will be some time before this coat will need replacing!

great!! will buy It again if mine ever dies
I got this coat last year. It was very difficult to move in at first but after the first month and the first threw the wash it freed up. I have run this coat over lots of sharp things that would easily tear up any other coat. I have been in rainstorms and stayed dry. I have been outside at 0 degrees F with a wind of 10 mph with just a sweatshirt underneath it and loved it. I liked how they designed it big to fit lots of layers under it. My only complaint is that it is noisy to move in. That never struck me until I was siting in the deer blind on opening morning. But hey it was never advertised for hunting.

Wash before wearing to soften
When I first tried on this coat, obtained it by mail order, I thought the fabric was too stiff, but I needed something that can repel rain and snow. So, I tried washing it before wearing it on a regular basis and that made all the difference.

Wears you out wearing the coat
Wearing it is like wearing a suit of armor.
Difficult to move about, difficult in bending and getting up and down. Works fine if you are standing in place and not planning on moving around.
Strength and Durability are really good.

The Winter Work Coat
This the warmest toughest coat i've ever seen let alone owned. When I bought this coat the guy at the store asked what size I wanted, I said I want it big enough to layer under, he said you're not going to need to layer under this, I laughed and said yeah right. Then once it was delivered i fryed in it, in a good way, it's also water resistant which is great for snow because duck just soaks on through. It's of made cordura nylon which is one of the reasons a bought it instead of duck. I'm a fireman and the sides of our duty boots are made out of codura nylon, so i knew what I was getting. Cordura nylon is water resistant, cut and tear resistant. Fits true to size order what you normally wear it'll fit fine even if you do decide to layer. Now go buy it and start being warm.

Way too big!
Well made, very warm but way bigger than expected. I measured my chest/waist which landed squarely in Medium. I think that even if i got a small it would still seem oversized.

Yukon Extremes Coat/Arctic Quilt-Lined - Dakotas!
Jacket fits properly, L-Tall, as I am 6'2" and 125lbs.
Shipping was accurate/fast with no issues.
4 stars given for overall quality/fit/color/texture.
Live in the Dakotas and it gets cold, with routine negative temperatures ... this Jacket hacks it with no issues!

Missing 1 star (out of the 5) as I wish ( having owned several Carhartt jackets over several years ) that the cuffs were designed just a little differently. The cuffs wear out and start to tear/get rough looking; this could be avoided with double/triple stitching as well as a beveled cuff design.

I hope to get a good 3/4 years out this jacket ....

Would recommend!

Weatherproof
Ounce for ounce the warmest jacket made. It is so light you will never believe how warm it actually is. I've used this model at home and work (with the arctic bibs at work) for almost 20 years with no fear of being in the cold down to about -20F and lower with wind chill. Rain and wind have never made it through.

Perfect Cold Weather Coat
I have the tall version of this coat and it fits perfectly. The inside is very comfortable and smooth. the exterior holds up perfectly in rain, sleet, and snow while doing pretty much any type of work. I've done everything from simply wearing it to the office to chopping firewood in it during 10-30 degree temps and all sorts of conditions. It's held up outstanding...in some cases, nearly overheated me! the warmth is almost instant as soon as you put it on. As with any thick lined coat, the jacket is a tiny bit stiff, but by no means uncomfortable. Just don't expect it to be as broken in as a lighter weight jacket.

pretty good coat
a great value in a coat very warm the zipper takes a few weeks to really break in but overall its ok. i also have a 1500 dollar canada goose expedition parka which is a bit warmer for ten times the price but its a pain you have to worry about getting robbed and mugged and its impossible to check or live with the carhartt is ez to live with and you dont get hasseled very warm to about five degrees. overall great overall

Excelent cold weather protection.
Pros:
It keeps you warm no matter what.
Tough, made to last.
Cons:
Not very flexible, not very comfortable.
The brass zipper should be better covered. You have to be careful not to scratch the surface that you are close to.

When this arrived and I took it out of the bag, it was had to unzip it. I then tried the coat on and spent 10 minutes trying to zip it up and could not get it started! Representative said to try putting bar soap in the zipper. I did that and managed to get it up and down, but it was so stiff, I can't imagine fighting with the zipper all of the time, so guess I'll return it as defective. I'm afraid I'll be out the postage both ways!!!

Not what the name implies
I bought this coat 13 months ago, so I'm on my second winter with it. The coat runs a bit large, but acceptable. Anything smaller, could be too small. Pockets are plentiful for my needs. It isn't, however, what I would consider to be warm. A short 20 minute walk in 20 degree weather, can be too long with a brisk wind. The insulation layer is really quite thin. Wind blows right through it. It has been a real disappointment! Not at all what I expected.

Whacked out size
I wanted a half star. I purchased this coat as a Christmas gift for my dad. I shopped around and this site had it for the best price. I'm a large and so is my dad, so we were confident a large would suffice. I was content with how quick the coat was delivered. My father received it and I was expecting him to use it for a family gathering we were attending, and when he showed with his old jacket I knew something was wrong. I then tried the coat on and I must admit this is THE most uncomfortable coat I've ever had on. First the outer material is like coarse sandpaper! The coat is stiff as if it were dipped in glue. The best thing is that the sleeves were meant for a giant, not in length but in width! The sleeves were so wide a second person could fit in there.the torso is normal large 44. I couldn't be more unhappier with this. If you tend to go by comments/review of products by other customers like me then this comment is the one to go by, trust me. Needless to say I'm returning the coat. Happy Holidays!!

I can't believe mine is 10 years old
I think I have this coat but a few years back model. It is the exact same code but I bought mine in 2008 it doesn't have any tearing or freeze around the cuff which is absolutely amazing because I chainsaw many cords of wood with this coat on every winter it's now 10 years old and it's just now beginning to look worn around me collar but the nylon has held up like nothing I've ever owned before the hood looks like it's brand new. The only reason I'm buying a new one because I want it to look Factory fresh when I ask people how old they think this could is they say what did you buy at last year?

It was what I was expecting but runs big
This jacket is really want but it does runs big. In every other jacket i have I wear a Medium. I could only find a retailer who carried this in a medium. When I tried it on, it was a little big but i thought it could work considering I was going to have bibs underneath it. However, after wearing it a few times with and without my bibs, I really wished I could have tried a small on because I think it would have been a better fit.

Great but oversized
Great jacket. Weather is 20 degrees and doesn't affect me at all. Issue is I used the true to fit system(available on this site) to purchase. I am 5'9 and about 240. This thing swallows me. I can wear it but it is way oversized. I'm not complaining because it does what it says. I get that it is designed for layering but a base layer, plus a think hoodie, plus a vest should be plenty. I think I could add a couple of extra layers in here. Problem is there are no stores around here that carry this model. I tried on the closest one I could find but the fit is really different. It is way oversized but it really does the job. I would exchange but I am headed to ND in a couple of days and don't have time.

Bombproof
I got this jacket in the winter of 2002 when i was living in Philadelphia. This jacket is the best. You can wear it with just a t-shirt and long sleeve shirt, and stay comfortably warm. The two inside pockets are great for a large bi-fold wallet on one side, and mail, tri-folded papers, and pens on the other. The large outer pockets are bottomless (9"wide by 12" tall with a cutout opening, with no closure- but i've never had anything fall out) you can fit a folded in half sheet of paper, gloves, earmuffs or knit hat and anything else you can think of. Even though the outer pockets aren't insulated, they can block the wind on a cold day and still keep your bare hands warm. The other day i lost my car keys in there with my gloves and other stuff, and didnt even hear them jingling around. There are 2 smaller outer pockets (5"x5") on top of the larger ones good for small pieces of paper or an ID and credit card. Carhartt's level of care is unbeatable. Four years after owning it i had a problem with the zipper. I emailed Carhartt, they emailed me a postage paid UPS label, and I dropped it off at a local ship center. They replaced the zipper and shipped it back to me within 7 business days. Nine years later and still going strong. The cordoroy collar has faded a little with my washings, but the cordura hasn't faded any.(cold wash and hang dry). My only regret is not researching further and buying a tall size (the store where purchased only carried regular sizes). At 6'3", 180 lbs, the Large size I purchased would be better in Tall with a little extra length in the sleeves.

The best arctic coat.
This replaces my C003 that I had for over 10 years, holes in the sleeves and finally the zipper broke. I prefer the Cordura. They run a size large, so just size down. As others have noted you need another layer underneath for additional warmth, for the coldest days. The same sized Paxton zip front heavyweight #100614 is a great combo, you can just leave it inside the C55.

Carhartt quality, none better.

Great Jacket
I've only had this jacket for a week and I'm extremely happy with my purchase. Its warm and very comfortable. I like the fact that it didn't come with a hood as i tend to wear knit hats in the winter anyway. All the large pocket are a huge plus as well.

Wicked warm, killer fabric, lightweight, great price.
Haven’t had this jacket for to long but right off the bat I can tell it’s going to hold up. Wore it in the low teens and it was plenty warm. Size was spot on for me. Only gripes are the pockets. Exterior lower pockets would benifit from some sort of lining and a minimal flap to keep snow and rain out. Also it would be nice if the one of the interior pockets was canted to make it easier to get into. Overall however this is a solid jacket, and a steal for the price. Haven’t had it long enough to tell how it will hold up, but 1000d cordura is a gnarly fabric so it should be good to go.

I wish they would make this exact version for women. Don't make it form fitting or flare at hips. A mans small is still to big. Maybe offer a extra small. I had my other jacket 35 years until nothing was left but the zipper.

Tough As Nails
This is by far the warmest coat I own. The outer shell is tough and repels water nicely, however it is somewhat noisy. If you're looking for a hunting coat, this may not be the model for you. However if you want a very warm, and tough as nails coat, pick one of these up. I wasnt disappointed wearing it in the field for three days straight while the weather was in the teens, and neither will you.

Best Purchase Ever!
I'm always cold. I've never owned a coat that was warm enough that I would leave the house in winter when it wasn't mandatory.
I bought this coat a couple years ago, and I now go walking with my husband, even in the coldest weather. It's strange feeling the bitter cold on my legs and face, and almost sweating under my coat. It's durable, has plenty of large pockets- my ereader fits in one just fine! I got the optional hood, too. I tell everyone I can, if they want to be warm in winter, they NEED this coat!

I bought this same coat a few years back i can honestly say you can not destroy this coat. I'm a linemen I'm always working in the cold and this coat has done more than it's job. I've been snagged on things and it wouldn't rip I've been cut up on poles and it didn't rip. Most importantly it's warm never owned a better coat I give it 100%.

Great winter work jacket!
I waited three weeks after I got my Carhartt arctic quilted lined jacket and hood to write this review because I really put it to some tests. I work nightshift as a mechanic for a regional railroad company so I’m outdoors in all kinds of weather. When I got the jacket I was kind of skeptic because it is thin and fairly light weight. On a 3 degree snowy windy night this jacket kept me so warm with just a long sleeve shirt underneath. It protects against the biting wind too. The jacket is really well designed. The zippers are easy to use with gloves on. It’s also easy to put things in the pockets with gloves on. Just real well designed. The optional hood is great too. With the hood up and the Velcro flap fastened it seals up around your face so cold air or snow cant get in. The jackets material is very durable and water resistant. Defiantly won’t tear easily. All and all it’s a super work jacket!

Best Jacket I have ever owned.
This was my first Carhartt jacket and definitely not the last. I was amazed at how comfortable and warm it was. I live in NY so the weather right now is snowy and below freezing. This jacket handles those conditions very well if not perfect.

The fit was perfect, Being 6"7 its hard to find a nice jacket that fits. But I had no trouble at all finding a Carhartt jacket that was my size (4XLT).

The quality and durability of this coat alone makes it worth buying. As long as they don't get rid of the Big & Tall line then I will keep buying Carhartt jackets for the foreseeable future.

Ultimate Winter Coat
Once again Carhartt did not disappoint. The extreme Artic Coat is warm, comfortable and rugged. Amazingly it is also lightweight! I am very pleased with my purchase and have told several friends. In my opinion carhartt set the standard for high quality, rugged work clothes. This winter coat is everything I was looking for and more. Thanks Carhartt.

Michigan Winter Survival Coat
I was looking for something to get me through the brutal winters in Michigan, and I had been advised to look at the "Extremes" line which includes the "Arctic" lining. The coat literally seals you in from the elements, and no matter how hard the wind blows, you won't feel it.

I'll be buying the hood for it, as my previous Carhartt had one, and you cannot beat the convenience of the high quality hoods.

The coat features cuffs that are recessed from an outer protective cordura layer that provides extra protection up to where your hand begins to come out. If used with proper gloves, this almost guarauntees that your hands will stay warm and free of moisture.

Wonderful product!

My husband owns this coat, and I'm always guilty of stealing it! This is by far the absolute WARMEST coat I have ever worn!!! Very warm!
My husband drives a semi, so he travels all over during all kinds of weather. His last Carhartt coat lasted over 6 years, so when the zipper finally gave out, we checked out what coats were available. We decided on this style because of the fact it was their extreme line. He has had it about two weeks now, and despite the extreme cold we have had recently, he says it keeps him very warm with just a t-shirt underneath. My only complaint is I wish the hood would be included with the coat, as it seems hard to catch them in stock.

C-55 Warm Coat 12/11/2010
The coat keeps me warm, the fabric can take abuse, the pockets are large and the hood keeps me warm. The Velcro of the hood simplifies securing the hood for warmth. I spend a lot of time out in the cold. I bought the coat in New York 1/2/2008. I hope Carhartt has improved it. Last year, 2009 the cord that goes around the waste to keep the cold out, tore apart. My work around was to thread a new nylon cord into the cord passage. I realized the hard nylon could damage the fabric so I used the plastic locking mechanisms on the cord to hold the waist in a tight position. I wish i had thought to do that in the first place. Today 12/11/2010 the puller on the zip came off. I was able to replace it with a heavy duty paper clip which I bound in tape. I hope there are no more surprises. I still like the product because the outer fabric is so very durable. I don't expect I could find better even at a much higher price.

A really nice heavy winter coat
I got the matching bibs with the coat. Amazing coat and bibs. A really heavy coat so if you working it’s a little to warm. This coat (and the bibs that go with) run a tad larger in size AS THEY SHOULD. This is so you can layer up. If you don't layer up, your doing it wrong... If you plan to wear this with just a T-shirt underneath, you better order a size smaller. This material is stiff. Don't expect it to be tough and still flex like cotton shirt. This coat is much like breaking in a new pair of boots. The more you wear it, the better it will fit you.

Had ordered this product for my son for christmas who is in the Air Force stationed over seas, the product arrived quick. Ordered it from the store in Detroit the carhart employees helped me order it online from within the store and also gave me his military discount, I will definitely be going back to this store and will only buy carhart tough products.

Love the coat. Have used the one with cordura for several years. Doesnt seem to ever fade. Am a surveyor and have to climb barb wire fences. The codura has never ripped when snagged on barb wire

Best coat I've ever owned. You get what you pay for.
This is my everday coat. I also use it for snowmobiling and keeps out the wind. Just need one sweatshirt under it and good to go at 60 to 80 mph on the sled. Keep the inner drawstring tight and no wind comes up youre backside. Expect 6 to 7 years of use before it gets frayed and ratty looking. Even then there're still warm.

Best coat ever!!
Best jacket I have ever purchased. I bought it because I was going back to Inchon Korea were I had been the coldest I've ever been. I was in a similar situation as far as wind, cold and night . This time I was fine. This coat kept me very warm in some of the most chilling air I have ever experienced.

Tough outdoor 4x4 coat
This coats shell is really tough. The "artic weight" lining is slightly off. All in all very happy with it and the fit was as expected. Can't wait for it to get colder here in Quebec Canada for the real cold test. More to come.....

Best Carharrt I ever purchased!
I have high expectations for this coat. I am out in the freezing Midwest temperatures and have a physically demanding job that even the cotton duck Carharrts have trouble holding up to for more than three years. This coat seems to be constructed well and durable. It's definitely warm. Just trying it on quickly warmed me up. Time will tell if my first impressions are correct, but from what I see and from the other reviews, I think I will be happy with this purchase for a long time.

Just ordered a new one
After more than ten years this coat is still in pretty good condition it keeps me warm with just a tee-shirt underneath and I am by no means a polar bear. I used to work in a factory now I am a teacher and I wear this coat with a shirt and tie no problem! I am buying a new one because I can't imagine using any other coat and the old one is getting too beat up for work (small stuff - broken zipper, Velcro loose) more cosmetic than functional. I love all the pockets (6 in all) the two front ones are huge, keep your hands warm and won't let you loose the things that you put in them. A word to the wise GET THE OPTIONAL HOOD its an extra 30 bucks but well worth it.

6 years later
I've had this coat, along with the hood, for 6+ years. It has been put through some pretty bad scenarios and is still in pristine condition. I am a woman working in an extreme male dominated field. I was instructed years ago to go buy the warmest and best stuff I could find and they emphasized that Carhartt should be looked at. With this coat and hood, I have had men I work with threaten to steal it. It is impossible to get cold in this sucker. I've been outside in snow, sleet, rain and cold New England days. I even brought it to Canada and didn't get cold. I love this coat.

Nothing beats it
It can not be put into words how great this product is. Having served in the military, I have been exposed to temperatures of extreme heat and cold. Looking back, On those cold desert nights I wish i would have had the luxury of having this coat. What i do have is Michigan's Lovely winter wonderland. It's unimaginable how warm it is inside of this coat. In the blistering cold you can stand in the coldest of wind and you still feel nice and toasty where ever the coat covers. Be sure to also get the hood and a Carhartt hat to complete your package, cause even tho your body is warm, you dont want to ruin your experience by freezing your face off!

The size suggested to me by the site ended up being way too large. I did not like the exterior material but maybe that was my personal opinion. Had to return and getting a different jacket in a smaller size.

Second best purchase
I have to admit I am jealous as Carhartt employees
Have an easy job selling a product that sells itself,I
Have a second coat that fits great, warm in the 10°
Freezer and the attached hood is also a great fit
And warm . I was.ooking at the jeans jacket, that is going to be my next purchase. The order time to receiving the coat was great only one day.
People at carheartt are friendly, answer all my questions. I am buying a great product and recommend it to my family and friends.

Fantastic Jacket
Bought this to go with the Extreme bibs my hubby wears on the Slope in Alaska. You will not be disappointed in the quality and durability of this coat. Worth every penny and will last for many years to come. He feels it fits true to size and he did size up to allow for room for his other layers.

Toughest warmest sub-zero coats we have ever purchased!
Awesome coat, we work outdoors in freezing to sub-zero weather and purchased the Extreme coats for our whole crew, warmest toughest coats for outdoor extreme cold weather work.

You can’t go wrong if what you need is protection from cold weather and durability!

The best coat company on the planet period.
I bought my Yukon extreme arctic jacket the very first year it was offered by Carhartt. I still have and wear this jacket today. And I will buy my second soon as an Charismas gift to myself. This is the only company you need deal with if you need any long lasting outerwear.

Thoughts on this Arctic Jacket
This jacket thick and straightforward, yet I find it the most stylish and impressive of any Carhartt jacket. It keeps you warm but doesn't weigh you down. When you touch this jacket, and the Cordura nylon its made from, you can feel how top-quality the materials are. It's feels like it was built to last.

Warm and Rugged
Warm and Rugged
This along with layers is used under 32 degrees, if it's much warmer and your working it may get a bit to warm.
Hoods a great addition, hood could be a bit deeper for more coverage
I'm a lean 6'5 230lbs
I find that the large Tall fits great but the sleeves are a bit short. The tall could be taller.
Will take some time to break in. It's very tough and durable, wood dust and debris to lodge into the fabric weave but can be easily dispatched
The time I have spent in the rain it stayed dry and warm.
After my purchase I bought them for my crew.

My Favorite Coat Ever
I got this coat in 1998 when i was in the 10th grade and wore it every winter up until this year. The only reason i stopped wearing it is because i can't find it. The only thing wrong with it after all those years were a few burn holes from wearing it while welding.I will def be buying another next winter and suggest anyone who wants to buy a longlasting coat do the same

Four Years and I still love it
After four years of wearing this coat and working line maintenance for an Airline; I love this coat. Only a worn corduroy collar around the neck line. The Cordura fabric still looks good, and has survived four years tear free.

Too warm for now
I bought this coat in august and even though its getting cold up here it's still to warm to wear this coat. It will be definitely be tested when it drops to -50. The hood is also a nice addition to the coat. It takes a while to break in but is still nice.

Extreme Weather Coat
The coat is much warmer than I expected. It may take a while to break it in completely but that is because it is built for rugged wear. The coat is heavy enough to protect me from the elements yet it is comfortable enough to wear all day working outdoors. I am sure it is the best work coat I ever owned.
